Math Skills Group
Build Understanding, Strategies & Confidence
Math Skills Groups provide targeted small-group instruction for children who would benefit from additional support or practice with foundational mathematics.
Each group (2-4 students) follows a four-week instructional cycle, meeting once per week for four weeks. Students are thoughtfully grouped according to similar learning needs so instruction can focus on specific concepts and skills rather than following a one-size-fits-all grade-level lesson.
Depending on the needs of the group, instruction may focus on:
• Number sense and number relationships
• Addition and subtraction
• Place value
• Math fact strategies and fluency
• Multiplication and division foundations
• Fractions
• Measurement and geometry
• Word problems
• Mathematical reasoning and problem solving
What to Expect
4-week learning cycle
One small-group session each week for four consecutive weeks.
Small, intentionally formed groups- (2-4 students)
Students are grouped around similar instructional needs.
Hands-on learning
Manipulatives, visual models, games, and problem-solving activities help make abstract concepts easier to understand.
Understanding before memorizing
Students learn not only how to solve problems, but why mathematical strategies work.
Meaningful next steps
Progress throughout the four-week cycle helps guide recommendations for continued learning.
At the end of the cycle, families may continue into another Math Skills Group when appropriate or receive recommendations for the child's next learning priority.
